About this work

Description

Administrative correspondence concerning the Korkes Memorial Lecture, delivered at Duke University on 24 October, 1960. (Note: whereas correspondence indicates 24 October, the file cover - retained - shows 4 October.)

With a general rather than a specialist audience to prepare for, Crick writes (16 September, 1960): "I have had a difficult time trying to decide on a title. Of the two subjects with which I am closely occupied at the moment, the first (the determination of the certain bond lengths and angles in crystal structures) is too dull, and the second (the theory of genetic complementation) is too specialised ... After much thought I would suggest 'The genetic control of protein synthesis'." The file contains three sheets of lecture notes (holograph) on this subject.
