Volume 1 and 2, covering staffing, staff duties, facilities, equipment, departments, consultants, surgeons, nurses, World War 1 (1914-1918) and war work, influenza epidemic, 1918-1919, ward systems and patient classification, salaries.

Acquisition note

These two volumes were presented to the Wellcome Institute Library by Dr Hood's daughter Mrs Lettice Ross in 1976 and transferred in 1980 to the Contemporary Medical Archives Centre (now Archives and Manuscripts, Wellcome Library).

Biographical note

Dr Basil Hood, MRCS, LRCP, was the Medical Superintendent of the St Marylebone Infirmary, later St Charles' Hospital, from 1910 to 1941. Few further details of his career may be found in the Medical Directory.
