Description

Two photographs printed on one piece of paper. The first is of a section of an ancient Greek cup by Epictetus held by the Altes Museum, Berlin, featuring javelin thrower, discus thrower and boxer. The second photograph is of a section of an ancient Greek amphora held by the National Archaeological Museum of Naples, Italy, featuring a spear thrower. The photographs were originally published in Schroder, Bruno: Der Sport im Altertum, Berlin, 1927. The photograph was acquired by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum and accessioned in 1946 (accession number PHO 12644). Related images: M0009555, M0009557.
