About this work
Description
This trust fund was established in 1929 under terms of the will of William Johnston, shipowner of Liverpool (in memory of Mrs Aileen Congreve). A lump sum paid to the Campaign was invested and transferred to three Trustees who were appointed by the Campaign, the Lancashire Cheshire and North Wales Council of the Campaign and the will executors. Income or capital of the Fund was to be applied to cancer research in Liverpool and the neighbourhood under the direction of the LCNWC. Much of the Fund was granted to the Liverpool Medical Research Organization. The agreement provided that if at any time the LCNWC ceased to exist then the Trustees would apply the capital and income of the Fund in any part of the UK. The first meeting of fund Trustees was held Mar 1929. (See also D.3/1; F.1/10; L.2/1)
