About this work

Description

Test papers for 'P Test' completed by male and female children from various schools, aged between 6 and 13 years old, in 1946. The test required interpretation (by multiple choice) of a series of six pictures which depict mother-child and family scenes. The back of the test papers contain information about the child, family and parents.

This collection of test papers were originally in an envelope labelled 'Mrs Jackson, 385 Woodstock Road, Oxford' [Lydia Jackson] 'Neurotic and delinquents'.

The contents of file 1 was in a bundle labelled 'Broken Homes (Resident School) Non-delinquent'.

With the contents of file 2 were bundle labels 'Delinquent and Neurotic (Boys)' and 'Delinquent and Neurotic' with the second word crossed out. It is not clear if they related specifically the the test papers they were filed with. This file also contains some loose pages of notes tallying up numbers from each school. Many of the test papers in file 2 include comments on the child written on the back of the form and/or comments on the parental and home situation. The tests were undertaken by pupils of a variety of different schools, including 'Approved' schools, in the Home Counties and Oxfordshire.

The test papers are not in any particular order, boys and girls mixed up, schools, etc.
