About this work

Description

A Clinical Research Sub-Committee was set up by the Executive Committee in 1934, to investigate whether the Campaign should take more active steps to promote co-operation and co-ordination (by hospitals) on the clinical side of cancer research (e.g. record keeping) as distinct from experimental and laboratory research, and establish some sort of machinery for concentrating on clinical research in cancer. This led to an informal discussion on the subject, in Feb 1935, with representatives from many London hospitals. They agreed to form a general clinical research committee administered by the Campaign and consisting of representatives of the Campaign and every interested London hospital. The first meeting of the Clinical Cancer Research Committee was held in Dec 1935. Immediately after formation, the CCRC set up a sub-committee (Jan 1936) to investigate and report as to how its activities could best be carried out. This sub-committee reported in Dec 1937. From Nov 1939-Sep 1945, for the duration of World War II, the work of the CCRC was done by the Special Committee Acting for the CCRC.

The minutes of these various committees, from 1934 to 1937, are not entered in the volumes in strict chronological order, therefore, A.23/1 and A.23/2 should be consulted together
