About this work

Description

Framed souvenir colour photograph of a lake in Switzerland, copies of which (without frame) were presented as a gift from Burroughs to Burroughs Wellcome & Co staff.

Set into the back of the frame is a printed text (from Snow Hill Buildings, 25 October, 1892) addressed to "Dear Friend," in which Burroughs refers to the "satisfaction to be engaged in a business where all who are employed in it take such a personal and thorough interest in its advancement and success." The final paragraph refers to staff receiving "a uniform percentage of the annual net profits as a bonus, which, I am happy to say, this year promises to be larger in amount than in any previous year."
