What you’ll do
Join activist, writer and doctor Annabel Sowemimo in a facilitated conversation about racism, medicine and why we need to decolonise healthcare. Dr Sowemimo will be joined by other clinicians, activists and artists who support communities and work for social and health justice.
Contributors and audiences are invited to come together to explore how the racist structures and principles that medicine and healthcare was built on impact people today, and how these can be challenged and changed.
The discussion will also be live-streamed on our YouTube channel. You can get tickets for either the in-person event or the online event below.
If you are attending in person, you are invited to a reception where you’ll be able to join the speakers from the discussion, make connections and exchange information before the main event. Refreshments will be available.
The in-venue programme is as follows:
- 18.30–19.15: informal conversations with refreshments for ticket holders next to the Henry Wellcome Auditorium (level -1).
- 19.15–20.15: ticketed discussion with audience questions in the Henry Wellcome Auditorium (level -1).
A Chill-Out Room will be available during the event. There will be low lighting, comfortable seating, cushions and mats, ear defenders, earplugs, board games and sensory toys.
The evening is inspired by Annabel Sowemimo’s upcoming book, ‘Divided’. You’ll be able to buy the book in our bookshop and in the event areas.
