    THE APPEAL OF THE JENNER SOCIETY. We published yesterday a letter from Dr. Bond, of Gloucester, the indefatigable honorary secretary of the Jenner Society, in which he asks the public for funds, which are required in order that the operations of the Society may be continued. It has been our lot, from time to time, to place many appeals before our readers ; but not many of them have in so great a degree afforded an opportunity to donors of combining the discharge of duty to themselves with the discharge of duty to their neighbour. The Society, as Dr. Bond tells us, is at the end of its funds, and must be better supported if it is to achieve anything more important than strengthening the convictions of those who are already convinced. THE TIMES. “ An appeal which should be given the active and generous support of the scientific world has been made by Dr. F. T. Bond, of Gloucester, Secretary of the Jenner Society. It is to be hoped that this appeal will meet with every encouragement, so that the Society shall be able to make its operations felt over an extensive field.” NATURE. THE APPROVAL OF THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOARD. Cirencester, March 24th, 1899. My Lords and Gentlemen, Having reference to your letter of the 8th ultimo, in which you state that you would have no objection to the Guardians incurring reasonable expense in obtaining and distributing in the Union literature in favour of vaccination, assuming that the same is issued by some recognised or responsible authority on the subject, I am directed to enquire whether the “ Jenner Society,” of which Earl Ducie is President and Dr. F. T. Bond, of Gloucester, is the Honorary Secretary, is such a recognised or responsible authority as is contemplated in your letter above referred to.
