Elis Majefty Guftavus III. King of Sweden, who conferred the diftinguifhing honour of the Royal Order upon him, in a letter accompanying it, written with his own hand, fays, “ No man ever added fo much to the (lore of ufeful knowledge as Sir JOHN HILL;” he was, and net without fuffipent reafon, emphatically called The Linnaeus of Britain. IJis ftriH attention to the analogy betwixt vegetable juices and animal fluids, enabled ^him to judge of the moft proper remedies; and he invariably made choice of the powerful, yet the moft fate and innocent, produHions; conftantly avoiding thofe deleterious minerals which have proved the bane of thoufands, and lent numbers to au untimely grave.
