About this work

Description

Two autograph letters relating to Bell's Discourses on the Nature and Cure of Wounds.

This work was first published in 1795, with the imprint "Edinburgh: Printed for Bell & Bradfute; and T. Cadell jnr. and W. Davies ... London"; a second issue the same year omitted all the booksellers' names and had an imprint simply reading "Edinburgh". These letters relate to discussions and disputes over who was to publish the second, enlarged, edition (eventually published by Cadell & Davies in 1800); disputes that were presumably behind Bell's removal of publisher's names from the second issue of the first edition.
