About this work

Description

Satire on Edward Dubois's attack on Sir John Carr's 'Stranger in Ireland' of 1805. Carr brought an action on 25 July 1808 for damages against the publishers of Dubois' attack that featured caricatures and was seen to be an attempt to ruin Carr's reputation as an author. References to plagiarism and 'mangling' of words abound in this image. Dubois sometimes wrote under the name of 'Old Nick'
