Biographical note

Project Summary:The Battle for Biomedicine is a day of debates about the future of biomedicine. The debates will be part of the Battle of Ideas festival, a weekend of international and interdisciplinary debate about ideas shaping our world, at the Royal College of Art, London, 1-2 November 2008. The Battle for Biomedicine aims to attract an audience combining individuals with a specialist interest in biomedicine and those with a general interest in the world of ideas.

The debates are:

• Whose Data is it Anyway? Medical databases, privacy and trust

• Boozy Britain: What's the evidence?

• The Future of Medicine: Question time

There will also be a pre-festival event exploring cultural and medical attitudes to dying. The events will be recorded and made into video and audio podcasts.
