Photograph of a print publication illustration titled "The Goddess Discovery presenting Mandragora to Dioscorides." This drawing comes from the 6th century illustrated manuscript Dioscorides of Vienna, that is part of Dioscorides' work "De materia medica." The Mandragora plant (Mandrake) was used as an anaesthetic in Roman and medieval times.
