Correspondence, 1954-2003

Hart's professional correspondence. Given the breadth of his research and personal interests and the length of his life there is some cross-over between his personal and professional correspondence. See PP/PDH/A/1 for personal material. Although the material spans the years 1954-2003 the sequence does not represent a continuous run of correspondence for this period. In particular there is no material in this section for the following years: 1957-1962, 1964-1977, 1982-1984, 1986-1989, 1991-1992. The section is arranged as follows:

The sequence of general professional correspondence 1995-2003 typically includes letters to scientific colleagues regarding mutual research interests, requests for publications and comments on draft publications. These files also include off-prints and copies of published articles.

Material 1998-2003 was in a chronological sequence when transferred to the archive. Accession 1640 containing material dated 1959 and a discreet grouping of letters 1995-1997 have been added to this section but not integrated into the files of general correspondence, becoming files 1 and 2 .
