Biographical note
Thomas Young was the 'first to give regular courses on Midwifery to medical students' [cf. Grant (Sir A.). 'The story of the University of Edinburgh', 1884, Vol. II, p. 414.] He began his lectures in 1756 and partly retired in 1780, three years before his death.
