Biographical note
The Department of Trade and Industry was formed in 1970 as a result of the merger of the Board of Trade and the Ministry of Technology. The Department was split into two Departments, one for trade and one for industry, in 1974 but they were reunited in 1983. It was replaced by the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform and the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills in 2007.
