Biographical note
In May 1928, Daniel Pender Davidson, a professional artist, was appointed to take charge of the prints and drawings, responsibility for which had previously been divided between the Wellcome Research Library and the Museum. The department was located at Willesden. Pender Davidson died in November 1933. His successor, C A Earnshaw focused on the identification and sorting of the engraved portraits, remaining in post until 1957. Earnshaw's work on the cataloguing of engraved portraits was continued by Dr Renata Burgess.
