About this work

Description

Notebook containing notes on materia medica, with copy letters to various correspondents on the same subject. Several letters are to William Lockhart (1811–1896), missionary at Shanghai. Others are to James Vaughan (1818–1864), surgeon at Aden, and Wilhelm Mettenheimer, professor of Pharmacognoscy at Giessen. There is a long letter to George Henry Kendrick Thwaites (1812–1882), botanist in Ceylon. There are also several printed notices pasted in of consignments of imported drugs lying at London docks. The contents of the rear of the volume (ff.89v.-135) largely comprise notes on Chinese materia medica, with several Chinese labels pasted in.
