Description

Notebook containing notes on materia medica, mainly extracted from relevant historical and contemporary works. The extracts are often dated with a note of where the work was read, such as the British Museum, the Linnean Society, Kew Gardens or the London Institution. Index. There is a letter from Herman Merivale (1806–1874), permanent under secretary in the India Office, giving Hanbury permission to consult 'certain volumes relating to India' at the Public Record Office, 28 February 1871, pasted at f. 122v. Hanbury's British Museum Reading Room ticket for 1874/5 is attached to the rear flyleaf.
