Boncambiis, Julius de

Libro lettera Q. A collection of alchemical treatises and extracts, with some receipts: in Italian and Latin. Compiler's holograph MS., with some entries by other hands. Illustrated with a number of rough pen-drawings of alchemical apparatus, etc. The 6th preliminary leaf contains a pen-drawn coat of arms: below a sketch of a city: beneath this, within a decorated panel 'Julius de Boncambiis, Comes Civitellae de Comitibus'. Produced in Perugia.

The 'Frater Jouanne Baptista ab Assisio' mentioned on fol. 192, may be identical with the 'Frater Joannes Baptista', compiler of the three volumes of the Collection of alchemical works and extracts in Italian and Spanish c. 1565, entered under that name in Part I of this Catalogue (MSS. 383-385). [Cf. also the preceding 'Libro lettera N'., ff. 142, 143.] The works by Hortulanus and 'Rosarius' seem to be variants of those described under these titles by Thorndike, and the tract headed in this MS. as the 'Apertorium' of Lullius, has not been identified with any in the 'Lullian Collection' as set out in his fourth volume of his 'History of Magic and Experimental Science'.
