Letter fragment, to [The Fellows Medical Manufacturing Co, New York]

An incomplete letter of some length that appears to be, on the basis of internal evidence, addressed to The Fellows Medical Manufacturing Co, New York. In Burroughs's hand, without signature and without date, on headed paper from "Burroughs, Wellcome & Co / Manufacturing Chemists / 7 Snow Hill London EC."

The letter makes a number of general points on selling overseas, based upon Burroughs's experience, and includes specific references to promoting [Fellows] "Hypo" in various countries (verso sheets 2 and 3, and recto sheet 4). A reference to Henry Wellcome's recent return "from canvassing in Spain" (recto sheet 4) suggests the letter was probably written in 1884, and certainly no later than 1885. Robert Rhodes James, Henry Wellcome (1994), p. 130, refers to Wellcome's "long tour of Spain at the end of 1883 and beginning of 1884."
