A label on the upper cover is inscribed "Obiter Scripta I. Extracts re Climate as influenced by Oceanic causes."
There are notes on the Challenger Expedition, and violent criticisms of Carpenter, Thomson and Huxley: also a forcible exposition of his own claims as a pioneer of discoveries in this field.
