About this work
Description
Matters covered included shares in the company, statutory meetings such as to adopt annual reports, accounts, etc., and payment of dividends. Some resignation letters from directors also appear in the volume.
An application for a patent for "an improved packing material for stuffing boxes and the like" is recorded on p. 12.
On p. 14 a copy of the company's declaration that it was not based in an enemy country (to the UK) under the Patents Designs and Trademarks (Temporary Rules) Acts 1914 appears.
The establishment of a company to carry out munitions work is noted on p. 20. (Oct 1915)
The use of some company land (and that owned by the chairman) for the building of houses under the government's scheme of subsidised housing is noted on p. 39 (LHS). Sir J Tudor Walters, the chairman of the company, was a well-known expert in housing. He chaired a renowned committee which produced a report in 1918 calling for "a state subsidised housing programme, with standards and densities of housing based on those of the Garden City". These were the so-called 'homes for heroes'. The report was enacted into the 1919 Housing Act, which made the Ministry of Health responsible for providing proper housing.
On p. 52 the sale of the company to Thomas Vickers & Sons Ltd is noted.
There are no minutes of any meetings in 1928.
From 1929 there are only records of a few meetings per year.
The resignation letter of J R Hinmers is loose in the volume at p. 70.
pp. 71 onwards are blank.
