Notes

This work is untitled: the title has been supplied by the cataloguer.
The following description was provided by James Gardiner: "Autograph portrait of circus acrobats The Angel Brothers. They are dressed in neo-classical garb including Greco-Roman sandals and leopard skins, which are reminiscent of the outfits used on his models by von Gloeden in his Sicilian photographs of a couple of decades earlier. The revival of the Olympic Games in 1896 rekindled long dormant Greek ideals of physical culture, which were, at least in the minds of educated homosexual men inextricably mixed up with ideas of 'Greek Love'. This gives and added potency and erotic charge to images such as this, which to anyone else might just be considered 'artistic'."
