Description

Papers relating to the College of Health established by Michael Young (Lord Young of Dartington) and Marianne Rigge in 1983 to encourage the greater participation of patients in health care and to promote positive partnerships between doctors and patients. The Patients Association was a supporting member represented by Dame Elizabeth Ackroyd (a Vice-President).

Includes correspondence with the Patients Association, press releases, press cuttings, agenda, minutes and meeting papers of the committee of Vice-Presidents of the College, promotional literature, submissions on government proposals e.g. re community nursing, provision of information for patients on medicines, and subject access to personal health information, Patients Association comments on documents such as a patient guide to 'Second Opinions in the NHS' and other guides issued by the College, , College of Health information booklets such as 'Healthline' and 'Guide to Hospital Waiting Lists', 'Guide to going into hospital' 1985, First Annual Report 1985, draft document 'Consumers' Guide to Health Information' 1986. There is also material relating to the merger of the Consumers Association and the College of Health.
