Description

Letterbook, containing drafts of letters from Hodgkin to various correspondents. Included are letters to Sir Henry James on hygiene and the water supply in Jerusalem; to Ebenezer Pye Smith, Sir Frederic Rogers (later Baron Blachford) and others on the protection of Australian aborigines; to J J Roberts, formerly President of Liberia, on the death of Lord Palmerston and the latter's policy towards Liberia; to Henry Moule and William Torrens McCullagh Torrens on sanitation and housing conditions among the poor in England; and to Lord Granville, with a memorandum on the Brown Trust (subsequently the Brown Animal Sanatory Institution).
