About this work
Description
HSW became a member of the African Society in 1913, serving on Council. In 1919 he offered to sponsor a Gold Medal 'to be awarded to those who have rendered eminent services to Africa. HSW designed the medal which was engraved by Frank Bowcher.
The material in this section represent what seems to be only an ephemeral selection of HSW's papers relating to the [Royal] African Society. Much of his other correspondence has been filed amongst HMM series, or with Johnston-Saint's correspondence [WA/HMM/CO], especially relating to the design and award of the Gold Medal.
