About this work
Description
The first entry is for 5 September, 1896 (a report on Red Gum Tabloids), followed by a letter to Lloyd Williams at the Dartford Works requesting various materials for analysis. Robert Rhodes James, Henry Wellcome (1994) noted that, on appointment, Power and Jowett "were at first almost wholly preoccupied with production difficulties and quality control at the Dartford Works, and in 1897 Power wrote 292 letters and reports on these matters" (p. 207).
The analysis of some new material, however, was also conducted - see, for example, 12 April, 1897 (p. 96), Power to Robert Sudlow, on a "small quantity of red bark" of African origin provided by Henry Wellcome for analysis. Some reports in the volume are of a more general nature - see, for example, 29 September 1899 (p. 652), Power's report marked "Private" on "present policy and future plans".
