Description

1973
Two articles detail the success of several ornamental plant exhibits from the Wellcome Research Laboratories and a visit from three Nigerian commissioners for health (Beckenham Journal, March 8th 1973), this meeting is pictured in another article from ABPI news from April 6th 1973. Also contained is an opinion piece on LABEX international laboratories and coverage of a Wellcome Foundation fete held at Beckenham on June 28th 1973, which involved sky divers, a metropolitan police motorcycle display and a Miss Wellcome beauty competition, these highlights are pictured.

1977
Single extract (Harrogate Herald, 1st June 1977) which discusses the success of using drugs in treatment. Special mention is made of the thalidomide issue and whooping cough vaccine.

1978
Several articles covering an explosion at the Wellcome Research Laboratory, which resulted in the injury a young female assistant dated 4th May 1948. The explosion occurred from the assistant, accidentally splitting two reactive chemicals.

1979
Several Wellcome Foundation Ltd News Releases, one dated 6th November 1979 details the Wellcome Foundation winning the first prize in the Royal Horticultural Society's Autumn Show for the exotic plants grown in its labs. One dated 21st November 1979 reports the Wellcome's major investment into UK research through building a new chemical laboratory, another (3rd October 1979) concerns Beckenham Laboratories meeting the demand for Polio vaccinations.
