Biographical note

The author was physician and physiologist, and had worked under Cline and John Hunter. He qualified M.D. at London and lectured on midwifery and physiology at Guy's and St. Thomas's Hospitals, as well as lecturing on midwifery and obstetrics at an anatomy theatre in Southwark in collaboration with William Lowder.
