Description

The Galton Book Volume I, arranged by Elizabeth Anne Wheler [née Galton]. Manuscript history and scrapbook of the Galton family, with biographies of individuals, descriptions of family properties and coats of arms; plus drawings, letters concerning family history, newspaper cuttings, examples of signatures cut from letters and photographs pasted directly onto the folios or tipped-in. Many of the letters are addressed to Elizabeth's son, Edward Galton Wheler-Galton. and date from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Includes handwritten extracts from Hutchin's Dorsetshire and other reference works relevant to the history of various branches of the family.

Appears to have been originally written by Elizabeth Anne Wheler but includes later annotations by her son, Edward Galton Wheler [later Wheler-Galton].
