Biographical note

On 14 May 1915 Council appointed a sub-committee to decide whether to publish a larger massage supplement in Nursing Notes, or their own magazine devoted to massage and allied subjects. When the latter proposal was adopted, a Journal Committee was established which became the Journal and Club Committee from 1916-1920, with responsibility for the Society's London club room.

The Emergency General Purposes Committee assumed the functions of the Journal Committee 1939-1943. From 1943 the Journal was taken over by the Establishment and General Purposes Committee, which appointed a Journal Sub-Committee on 14 Apr 1947. For the period when the Emergency General Purposes Committee, later Establishment and General Purposes Committee, assumed the functions of the Journal Committee 1939-1947, see SA/CSP/B.4/9-12. Minutes of the Journal Sub-Committee Apr 1947 - Oct 1951 are not extant: reports presented to Establishment and General Purposes Committee are held at SA/CSP/B.4/12-16.

From 8 Oct 1951 the Journal Sub-Committee combined with the Public Relations Sub-Committee to form the Journal and Public Relations Sub-Committee, later Committee.

From 1963 to 1965 a separate Journal Editorial Committee ran in tandem with the existing Journal and Public Relations Committee.

In 1970 the CSP was concerned to improve its Public Relations activities. Recommendations implemented included the formation of a separate Public Relations Committee and a Journal Editorial Board. On 2 Jun 1976 Council decided that ‘the disadvantages of being an independent Board instead of a standing committee well outweigh the advantages’, and the Journal Committee was reconstituted.

The Journal Committee minutes from 1979 are held in the Journal Department
