Biographical note
These photographs have been grouped and placed in folders according to the descriptions given by Paul Bucherer of the Swiss Afghan Archive, who kindly gave the volume of descriptions (A.32). He occasionally seems to have changed a description from the one given when he originally sorted the photographs: for example, the photographs in A.31/3 originally called `groups including Dr Hamilton', are described in the book only as `featuring a European lady'.
