About this work

Description

This volume contains minutes of meetings of the board of directors, AGMs, and related papers. Most of the minutes have been translated from Spanish to English, though some Spanish remains, particularly when it is a direct quotation from a legal document. Some excerpts from minutes of meetings held in the UK, which discuss the affairs of Little, Fison, Ratcliff, are included.

Board meetings took place three or four times a year in general, but at times were more frequent. There are some gaps in minutes early on in the volume, or longer periods where meetings did not take place. Matters discussed at meetings included the administration of the company, the remuneration of directors, relations with the UK companies, financial performance, and the company's structure. Details of the company's agents abroad (it was based in Argentina) are sometimes given. Results of product trials, good and bad, are also indicated on occasion.

There is an index at the front of the volume.

Many copies of minutes in the volume have been stamped to indicate that they have been received by various departments in the UK - for example the Managing Director's department, the Export Agencies office, or the Chief Accountant's department.

A joint arrangement for a warehouse with William Cooper & Nephews (South America) Ltd is noted on p. 59.

It appears that the company was supplied with products to process and/or sell on by Morris Little & Son Ltd, Berkhamsted, UK. (p. 62)

A fire at a warehouse, resulting in a loss of about $7000, is noted on p. 92.

A note of a wage agreement between the Chemical Industries Trade Union and the employers' organisation is made on p. 157, and again on p. 170.

The meeting of 22 Aug 1952 (pp. 174-175) closed with "a minute's silence in homage to Senora Eva Peron, the Spiritual Head of the Nation".

On p. 206 the Argentinian revolution is noted thus: "the current month's events [Sep 1955] were briefly commented [sic] and as a result of which commercial and banking operations were practically paralysed during ten days: it was hoped there would be an early return to institutional normality."

There are no pages 227-230 (see p. 231 for explanation).
