Description

File 1 has papers and cuttings on Pierce’s death, and also that of his wife in 1926; included is an obituary article in The Friend July 1932 with a photograph of Pierce. File 2 belonged to the Retreat Secretary and contains correspondence about Pierce’s death in July 1932, typescript of speeches given at the interment of his ashes at the Retreat burial ground and printed account of the interment; also included are typescripts of two Commissioners in Lunacy/Board of Control reports, from 1892 and 1922 recording the arrival and the retirement of Pierce at the Retreat.
