Biographical note

The Arts and Environment Project was initiated by a Hospital Arts Committee set up in 1988 following discussions between the Royal Group of Hospitals Unit of Management and Dr Michael Swallow, an honorary Consultant Neurologist with an interest in hospital arts. The project was established to improve hospital environments and amenities, under the organisation of an Artist in Residence and an Advisory Committee. The project intended to involve staff, the local community and patients, particularly those in long term care.
