About this work

Description

Trattato delle operationi chirurgiche agionte alcune osseruationi con sue figure. An abridgement in Italian by Carlo Michele Lotteri, of the 'Cours d'opérations de chirurgie'. Engraved t.p., title within an ornamental shield. Illustrated with 58 engraved plates of surgical instruments, and 14 others (2 folding) of monsters, etc. There are also two sanguine drawings: one at the beginning, of a double-headed child, the other of a deformed hand. The text ends 'Il fine delle operationi scrite da me Carlo Michel Lotteri l'ano 1723 dalli 15 Agosto sino alli 30 Ottobre'. On the title-page 'Ex libris Caroli Michaelis Lotterii anno 1724' [altered to 1784]. No record has been traced of an Italian translation of Dionis' work-first printed in Paris in 1707. This MS. is therefore either an original translation and abridgement by Lotteri, or notes of lectures on operative surgery closely following the original text, taken down by him when a student.
