Project description:Deafinitely Theatre, the UK’s only Deaf-led professional theatre company, explores issues around cochlear implants in an original theatre production touring UK venues. Two couples – one hearing, working within audiology, one Deaf with a Deaf baby – become intertwined over the question of what provisions are to be made for the Deaf baby: cochlear implants and oral education or British Sign Language (BSL). For the Deaf couple, the issue puts their relationship under strain, with the father being in favour of BSL while the mother becomes doubtful. A carefully researched, informative, evocative theatre piece aimed at stimulating debate on cochlear implants.
