File contains papers and correspondence on the likely impact of the Act on the Retreat and much of the file relates to the Retreat’s campaign to be disclaimed from the provisions of the Act and to continue as an independent hospital with its own special identity. There are also some papers about the Retreat’s finances and other matters from the late 1930s, as well as a copy of the NHS Act and some papers post 1948 relating to the Retreat’s role and position as an independent hospital, including papers about the Retreat’s working with the local NHS Hospital Management Committee and papers about its support by the Society of Friends
