Biographical note
The Universal Protein Resource (UniProt) is a comprehensive and freely accessible set of database of protein sequence and annotation data. The four core databases are UniProtKB, UniParc, UniRef and UniMes. UniProt is a collaboration between the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI). the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics (SIB) and the Protein Information Resource (PIR). It was launched in December 2003. Michael Ashburner was Chair of the UniProt Scientific Advisory Board from 2006-2010.
