Project description:The success of Café Scientifique has been as dramatic as it was unexpected. With more than 150  cafés, it is the first and largest worldwide network devoted to the discussion of science. Yet there is  no central organisation, no headquarters and no bureaucracy. Communication is via a website and a  discussion list. This award funded a conference in early 2007, as the rapid development of the cafés  is leading to further challenges, opportunities and debate, particularly when dealing with new  technologies, other cultures and developing countries. The conference brought together organisers  with experience of such challenges and stimulates discussion with regard to further initiatives. In  effect, it was a two-day Café Scientifique about Cafés Scientifiques throughout the world.
