Biographical note
The CIOMS is an international, non-governmental, non-profit organisation established jointly by WHO and UNESCO in 1949. Contact and collaboration with the IEA was established in the early days of the IEA: the first Chairman of the IEA in 1959 was Professor Robert Cruikshank, who was also Chairman of the CIOMS and involved with the WHO. In 1965, the IEA was elected to membership of the Executive Committee of the CIOMS.
