About this work

Description

Star patterned patchwork quilt made with red, green and grey patterned fabrics. Stitched onto the fabric is a brief typed description written by Henry Wellcome: 'Down Quilt. Mother bought and cut the pieces herself. Grandmother pieced them together when 88 years of age, and took prize at fair at Dixmont about 1881. Mother, Cevilla and Myrtle quilted it at Union Mills, 1895'.
