Description

These meetings, which began in November 1956, were initially held twice a year. The Spring Meeting was held between April and June, while the Autumn Meeting took place between October and November. From 1966, the Society held intermittent Summer Meetings in July. These meetings were usually held over two to three days and consisted of workshops and symposia, discussion forums, and oral and poster presentations at which members presented scientific papers. The programmes include abstracts from these papers. In 1993, the Autumn meetings were replaced by Annual Congresses (see H.5). At the Spring and Autumn Meetings, the BSI held its Business and Annual Business Meetings. The election of new members to the BSI was approved and the deaths or resignations of existing members were announced. At the Annual Business Meeting, members elected Society officers and BSI Committee members, and the rules of the Society could be changed.
