An endorsement ascribes this paper to "Mr. Wigrams, merchant" writing to "Mr. Richardson, East India House". Dates from before Wigram was knighted in 1815.

Biographical note
The author is probably Sir Robert Wigram M.P. (1744-1830), who sailed as an East India Company surgeon before becoming a merchant and shipowner trading to India; he is also mentioned in the anonymous merchant's account book held as MS. 832.
