Biographical note

Dumfries and Galloway Council purchased much of Crichton Royal Hospital estate in July 1995, with the exception of Crichton Hall and the Hospice. The estate was leased to the Crichton Trust and managed by their subsidiary organisation, the Crichton Development Company, who redeveloped the site. Initially NHS Dumfries and Galloway leased some of the buildings back for a period of five years as in-patient services were reduced. The redevelopment of the site has included the creation of a business park, a university campus with two universities and two colleges, a conference and events centre and a hotel.
