Acquisition note

The majority of the collection purchased from Charavay, Paris, April 1931 (acc.64715 and 64716): in general, these accession numbers are not carried on the items themselves. The remainder of the collection purchased from: Seine stalls, Paris, July 1930 (acc.63924); Charavay, Paris, September 1930 (acc.63925), September 1934 (acc. 67126), November 1934 (acc.67129), January 1936 (acc.69286) and at an unknown date before 1937 (acc.69806).

Biographical note

Victor Scheuer was a Belgian physician based at Spa, where he attended the Princes d'Orléans and other European nobility. He was a collector of autographs and his professional correspondence, involving contact with various notables, contributed to his collection.
