Description
Formerly known as the Family Discussion Bureau (FDB). The Bureau was established by the Family Welfare Association in 1948 to explore the dynamics of family life, and the problems presented to caseworkers by clients with marital difficulties, in order to develop appropriate techniques for solving these. From the early stages, a consultative realtionship was established with the Tavistock Clinic and the Tavistock Institute of Human Relations. In 1956, the Bureau became a unit of the Tavistock Institute of Human Relations, as funding was no longer available from the Family Welfare Association. The Bureau moved offices to join the Tavistock Institute and Clinic building in September 1959. The Bureau's work included casework; training of works in allied professional fields; and development (eg, through publications).
