About this work

Description

An artwork by Physical Illness Patient 8 - "Henri" which shows the artist's signature surrounded by spiraling and curling patterns and shapes Rita Simon said: "The signature: it's what people hold on to when the mind begins to go. It's an ego-assertion." The signature itself has been covered over with Tipex.

The quote is taken from notes made during conversations between Rita Simon and Wellcome staff, 1995-1997.

The title has been provided by the cataloguer for identification purposes.

Rita Simon classified the artwork as Linear Transition. She marked it as number 8 in the sequence on the verso.
